You’ll depart at 7am from Fat Cat Backpackers, Kampala and head west passing plains and plantations before driving through Kibale Forest (watch out for troops of baboons by the side of the road!) to reach the town of Fort Portal. In the afternoon you’ll enter the Ndali-Kasenda crater-lake fields just south of the town of Fort Portal. The crater-fields were created during the volcanic upheaval of the Great Rift Valley and consist of many stunning pools dotting the landscape. In the heart of the crater-lake fields you will be joined by a guide who will take you around the crater lakes, waterfall and lava pipe as well as identify the local flora and fauna. You’ll then drive through Kibale Forest to your accommodation for the night on the border of Kibale Forest national park. Sleep to the forest sounds of insects, birds and primates.
Accommodation: Kibale Forest Camp – Lazy Camping Tents

Day 2: Savannah and boat cruise
This morning you’ll be leaving the crater-lake fields and Kibale Forest and driving south along the Rwenzori Mountain chain to cross over the equator in southern hemisphere to Queen Elizabeth national park. You’ll then take a short game drive, keeping your eyes open for elephant herds, buffalo, leopards and lions as you make your way down the Mweya Peninsula in to the heart of the park. Once you reach the Mweya Peninsula you will take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to the edge of Lake Edward. On the boat trip you will get the chance to search the riverside for elephants, buffalo, large hippo pods, crocodiles and many species of bird living on the riverbanks. It’s then just a short drive back along the Kazinga Channel back to your lodge passing elephant herds where you’ll be spending the evening relaxing as the sun sets, with the sounds of the wild savannah echoing around you.
Accommodation: The Bush Lodge – Lazy Camping Tents

Accompanying you will be an official Uganda Wildlife Authority guide who are very knowledgeable and vastly increase your chances of tracking down different species. After your game drive you’ll be taken south out of the park stopping off for your lunch with a stunning view across the savannah plains with the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. You’ll then continue on passing banana plantations and the edge of Lake Mburo National Park. Have your cameras ready and watch out for zebra herds by the side of the road! You’ll then drive north back over the equator to reach your drop off point at Fat Cat Backpackers, Kampala by early evening. End of tour
