- 5th Oct
- 9:00 AM on Sunday
On Sunday 5 October, 2014, the streets of Kampala are going to be turned into one big party.
More than 100,000 people are expected to show up to experience the amazing show of art, entertainment, fashion, nature and business during the Kampala City festival. The entire stretch from Watoto church to Kitgum House will be closed for the day for a world- class carnival.
Started by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in 2012, the festival’s vision was geared towards bringing the people of Kampala and beyond together to celebrate Uganda’s 50 years of Independence. And it has now turned into an explosive annual event, sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited, through its flagship brand Bell Lager, with Shs 400m.
From a themed street parade, dancers and street performers to an exhilarating concert by Ugandan musicians, the festival’s programme is nothing short of a one-stop entertainment centre. It will also have photo and art exhibitions, tours and trails, large-scale interactive installations and a fashion show.
In fact, more than 30 artistes and musicians have been lined up to perform, including the crème de la crème like: The Goodlyfe duo of Radio and Weasel, Ragga Dee, Jackie Chandiru, Lilian Mbabazi, Coco Finger, Khalifa Aganaga and Mesach Semakula. Pastor Bugembe, Jamal, Eddy Kenzo, Exodus, Hilderman, Aziz Azion and Omulangira Ssuuna are also lined up to ascend the stage. Leading the pack of performers is the ghetto president himself, Bobi Wine.
