#UgTravelMonth: 5 Things to do on Lake Mburo Trip
Lake Mburo National Park is a compact gem, located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. Many have often driven past the park but have never adventured to experience what the park has to offer.
The compact nature of the park is something that works curiously in its favour. This inevitably gives guests a closer interaction with the wildlife of the park and one is guaranteed to catch sightings of zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck during your visit.
Here are some interesting things to look out for on #UgTravelMonth Trip 3:
5. Arcadia Lodge – Camp Venue
Peacefully located in leafy gardens just a stone’s throw from the lakeshore, Arcadia Lodge offers a comfortable and friendly option for our stay in the park.
Located 2km from the park headquarters at Rwonyo, Arcadia Lodge is an ideal base from which to explore the park on a game drive, spot crocodiles and hippos on the launch trip or really get close to nature on a guided walking safari.
In the evening, guests will wind down from an exciting day’s safari around our open fire, sipping on a cold drink from the bar while impala, warthog and the occasional hippo munch on the grass just yards away.
Guests may upgrade from Camping to a Room at only UGX 100,000 on the Uganda Travel Month Circuit. Slots are limited and advance booking is paramount.
4. Game Drive and Salt Lick
Take a morning game drive and encounter zebras, buffalo, elands and impalas along with a great variety of birds. After lunch at the lakeside restaurant, walk with a ranger guide across the wooden observation platforms of the salt lick area, where wildlife gathers to lick the salty soil.
3. Mburo Launch Trips
The wildlife-rich eastern banks of Lake Mburo can be explored during a tranquil two-hour boat voyage. Keep an eye out for crocodiles, buffalo, and hippos as well as colorful Kingfishers, magnificent Fish Eagles and Hammerkops with their enormous nests.
2. Sports in the Park
Whatever you do… Try not to embarrass your team when we meet up at the camp grounds for a post-safari Soccer Duel. There are no medals up for grabs but we’d like to see who takes the bragging rights when the Girls face-off against the Guys.
To even out the competition, the Guys will not be allowed to run and will only be allowed to walk while they play, the girls will be free to run like the wind. How’s that for Fair Play?
1. A taste of Kampala’s nightlife in the wild with DJ Simples
At night Uganda really lights up with a vibrant nightlife second to none. It boasts a huge variety of venues and events ranging from trendy bars to creative theme nights full of atmosphere and everything in between. Our latest trend is the massive adoption to bespoke Deejays that are putting in the effort to master their turntable wizardry.
We’re happy to have one of the leaders of the new school in this artform, DJ Simples as the official Uganda Travel Month DJ. The campsite promises to be no ordinary campsite and if the set is as good as he promises, sleep might not be part of this trip. But we’re not complaining.
