Holidays at Home Photo Competition Terms & Conditions
Overview & Features
Here are the terms and conditions which apply to The Pearl Guide’s Holidays at Home photo campaign. They include permission for us to use your entry after the competition (see: “What happens to my entry?” below). Please read all terms carefully – they contain important stuff you should know. By submitting your entry, you agree that these conditions of entry apply to your entry.
Who’s running the show?
The promoter is The Pearl Guide Uganda located on Plot 27 Clement Hill Road Nakasero. Our friends at Wildplaces Africa are our sponsoring partner courtesy of their arm, The Pineapple Bay. Information about the prizes and how to enter form part of these conditions of entry. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be published at here, so you should check these conditions of entry regularly. These conditions of entry are governed by the laws of Uganda.
Can I play?
You must be 18 years of age or older to enter this competition. You must also be a full resident of Uganda. (Of foreign or local origin)
How do I play?
To enter, submit and share a photograph of yourself on a trip anywhere in Uganda. It may be from a company retreat, family upcountry trip to a national park, great dinner with friends, a road trip and more. You MUST be in the picture for it to qualify!
1. Enter via Twitter: Tweet your photograph from your Twitter account and tag your entry with #holidaysathomeug. You must also mention “@thepearlguideug” in your tweet in order for us to receive your entry (if you don’t, it’s possible your entry could be filtered out of search results, and we won’t receive it); OR
1. Enter via Facebook: Post your photo to our Facebook Timeline and add the tag #holidaysathomeug; Don’t forget to “LIKE” the page OR
3. Enter via our website: go to our Holidays at Home competition page at http://thepearlguide.co.ug/holidaysathome and submit your photo! Photos are accepted in jpeg, gif or png formats. Finally, write a description of your photo and where it was taken.
You can enter between 12am on 13th March 2014 and 12pm 12th April 2014. Your entry is received at the time The Pearl Guide receives it. Incomplete and invalid entries will not be accepted. If your entry gets lost in cyberspace or doesn’t arrive for any other reason, that’s not The Pearl Guide’s fault.
All entries will be displayed at http:/thepearlguide.co.ug/holidaysathome and will be open to public vote. The Pearl Guide reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in unlawful or improper conduct that is designed to jeopardize the fair conduct of the promotion or is generally damaging to the reputation of The Pearl Guide, or has otherwise breached these conditions of entry (as determined in The Pearl Guide’s sole discretion).
The Pearl Guide might have to extend the dates of the promotion but only if it’s totally unavoidable (for example, if the competition entry page is unavailable for 24 hours or more) and we’ll let you know if we do.
How many entries can I submit?
Anyone may make a maximum of 5 entries/submissions into the campaign.
How do you pick the winner?
Rather than consulting tea leaves, finalists will be chosen as follows:
Public Vote – whichever photograph receives the most unique votes from the public will also be chosen as the Grand Prize Winner.
What can I win?
The Grand Prize Winner will receive:
A romantic weekend getaway for two at the Pineapple Bay! 2 Nights for 2, all expenses paid with access to the pool facilities and guide nature walks through the island!
How do I find out if I won?
We’ll give the winner the good news by email and phone, and their name(s) will be published on www.thepearlguide.co.ug within 1 day after selection. If you’re riddled with curiosity, send an email to email@example.com (including the name of the promotion) within 3 hours of the closing date of the promotion, and we’ll respond and tell you who won.
The Pearl Guide will do its best to find the winners.
How can I get myself Disqualified?
1. Digital Image Tampering: Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. High dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are acceptable. However any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the Photograph ineligible for the prize.
2. Vote Tampering: In order to ensure integrity into the people’s choice process, we thoroughly review all votes cast in the competition for all of the top popular vote finalists. Any examples of overwhelmingly multiple votes by the same user/IP address, automated voting software or any other patterns detected as fraudulent will disqualify the votes and the entry from the competition. These patterns are not indicative of people’s choice and compromise the security and fluid functioning of our platform.
If you do win …
We may ask you to provide proof of identify, residency and age, so that we are sure you are who you say you are and are eligible to receive the prize. We’ll decide whether the proof you provide is adequate (but generally speaking, a certified copy of your passport or drivers’ licence will be sufficient). If you can’t provide, or refuse to provide, suitable proof, then unfortunately you will be disqualified, and we will choose another winner. You can’t exchange the prize for cash, or ask us to give it to someone else (not that you’d want to!).
The Pearl Guide is not responsible for use of the prize which results in:
(a) loss that was not reasonably foreseeable;
(b) loss that was not caused by our breach of this deed or by our negligence;
(c) business losses (such as lost data, lost profits or business interruptions) or loss suffered by non-consumers;
(d) losses caused by factors which could reasonably be considered to be outside our control (such as faults in third party equipment, or delayed or cancelled flights); and
(e) any loss caused, or contributed to, by your breach of conditions of entry or your negligence.
