Lyna Bishanga, an employee of the Finance Department of DFCU Bank, emerged as the lucky winner of the Easter Edition of The Pearl Guide’s Holidays at Home Campaign, fending off stiff competition to win 2 nights for herself and her special person at the luxurious Pineapple Bay on Bulago Island.
Lyna Bishanga’s winning photo of herself catching a break while trekking the Sipi Falls amassed a whooping 3,826 votes at the close of voting on 12th April 2014 23:59 hrs and was closely followed by other equally fascinating pics from Komujuni Addy, Melissa Nakawuki, Ambrozio Kibuuka and many more in another phenomenal campaign that attracted an increased 876 domestic photographs across web, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Holidays at Home Campaign for domestic tourism is an initiative crafted by The Pearl Guide to refine the over-all image of local holiday get-aways and prompt Ugandans to inspire fellow Ugandans to take more inland trips. Domestic travel in Uganda has continuously created headaches for concerned stakeholders. Challenges are rooted in the perception that tourists have to be foreigners who are the only people able to afford our perceptively “expensive” packages. The local financially abler middle classes suffers is largely unaware of the various scenic holiday gems the country harbours and opt for the more popular destinations e.g Zanzibar.
The “Holidays at Home” Campaign effectively utilizes Uganda’s large and booming social media base. Users upload photos of trips they’ve had in Uganda to www.thepearlguide.co.ug or on Facebook and Twitter under the hashtag #holidaysathomeug and the owner of the best voted photo wins a holiday, for this edition, 2 Nights for 2 at the exotic Pineapple Bay!
The inaugural Holidays at Home Campaign was held from 1st November t0 6th December 2013 and was conquered by Colin Kirenga who bagged 2 Nights for 2 at the Rainforest Lodge in Mabira and the subsequent campaign, Valentines Edition 2014 was won by Betty Maraka who enjoyed 2 Nights for 2 at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
The Pearl Guide wishes to thank all Ugandan’s that have shown immense support for the campaign either by way of photo submission or casting votes for the submitted photos. The Pearl Guide also specially thanks partners Wildplaces Africa for backing the campaign and realizing there’s a domestic void to be filled.
The promo, after 3 successful editions now goes on a break and promises to return in an even bigger, better and more engaging fashion. Keep in touch with us for the latest updates!
