Our new and exciting domestic tourism, Uganda Travel Month, was officially launched on 8th September 2016 in the presence of media representatives and tourism industry stakeholders.
During Uganda Travel Month (Oct 2016), Uganda’s much deprived middle class will get to tour the gems that make Uganda a much coveted destination globally through a 4 week circuit that will take large groups out into the wild at once-in-a-lifetime discounted fees.
The inaugural edition is going to focus on promoting four destinations: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Mburo National Park and Jinja, East Africa’s renowned adventure capital, effectively showcasing these destinations to Ugandans and the world at large through weeks of promotions.
Speaking at the launch, Philip Kalibwani of The Pearl Guide indicated that “Over 1,000 Ugandans are expected to visit these destinations and the residual stories shared from these trips promise to ignite new trends in domestic tourism.”
Uganda Travel Month has attracted the support and active involvement of leading private sector players such as Nile Special, Total Excellium, MTN, Jumia Travel, Radiocity 97 FM, Coca Cola and a host of tour operators and safari lodges who are keen to see the domestic market grow.
As part of the initiative to promote tourism, MTN has introduced a brand new smartphone app dubbed “MTN Uganda Guide”. It recommends accommodation options in Kampala and beyond, along with recommendations for restaurants and bars; adventure activities; museums, monuments, and other tourist attractions.
Other Partners: Marafiki Safaris, Speke Uganda Holidays, Acacia Safaris, Marasa Africa, Geolodges Africa, Igongo Museum, Arcadia Lodges, Pakuba Lodge, Silver Fleet, Adrift Adventures and Great Lakes Safaris.
